I have a 2007 Dodge Caravan. After a drive it for a while, usually for more than 30 minutes, the engine starts making a whining noise which stops once the car shifts into third gear. What could be the problem?

does the sound seem to be coming from the engine or transmission? Can you hear it when you stop and place it in park? Is the vehicle still under the powertrain warranty?

No warranty. Yes. Once it starts, you hear it even in park. It is minimal when in third gear, but still noticeable. When idleing at a stop light you hear it also. If Im driving around town I generally dont hear it. Just at high speeds or long rides.

Okay, I need you to check one more thing. When you hear it, park the vehicle, open the hood, and see if the sound is louder on the passanger side where the accessory belt components are located, or if it is louder on the driver's side where the transmission is located.
