How to Replace the ERG Valve and where is it located?

I am looking to replace the ERG valve and need to know if it is something I can do myself and where the Valve is located. how long is it ok to drive with a "bad" ERG valve, since it has turned the check engine light on?

It should be in the valve cover. It pulls right out.
