When i crank up the car is doesnt get warm until i drive then when i stop at a light it's cold again. Whats wrong

What doesn't get warm, the engine temperature or the air from the heater? If the engine temperature gauge stays too low, suspect the thermostat is sticking open. If the gauge reading is normal but the air temperature from the heater is cold, check the level of the engine coolant.
