Thermostat location

I'm changing the coolant and the thermostat in a 2007 Chevy Uplander 3.9 liter engine. The top hose dosn't attach to a typical thermostat housing. Where is the thermostat and how do I gain access to replace it?

It is at the lower hose to the block. It is tight but take your time. Here is a guide to help walk you through with diagrams below to show you the location.
