When my TB shifts it sounds fine until it shifts into drive - it sounds like its stuck in second - very loud sound like I have the car floored in 2nd gear - rpm's seem normal.

it's probably in limp mode have a trans guy scan it for codes and check it out

it cold be an overhaul is needed and yes it's exspensive
