My 07 Chevy Malibu with 3.5 L engine runs fine, but when accelerating sometimes sounds like trickling or running water when accelerating. Especially noticeable when accelerating slowly, after being in stop / go traffic. Any idea what this could it be? Has done this for at least the last 40,000 miles or so. If powertrain problem, I have warranty for another 7,000 miles.

could be hearing water going through heater core.
could be belt related under the hood.
either way, if you have warranty, get it checked to verify.
