Issues when putting the headlight switch to automatic

While driving our 2007 Buick Rainier with the headlight switch in auto, the lights went out for approx. 10-15 seconds and came back on.

This has happened twice this week. One of those times, I switched to manual and they still stayed off for a few seconds.

It sounds like it could be the headlight control module. It could also be a couple other things:

1, Ambient Light Sensor
2, Headlight Switch
3, Combination Switch
4, Headlamp Relay

It has happened 3 times now, and each time it is about dusk. Just enough darkness where you would barely need to have the lights on. We have driven it several times late at night and it hasn't occurred.

It sounds like a difference in ambient light when you are driving. Some automatic lights like this will turn on and off depending on the angle of the sun while you are driving. I wouldn't worry about it unless it effected night time driving.
