2007 Audi A3 Engine Cover

Popped the hood the other day and saw that the engine cover was completely detached and the turbo air intake which is a part of the engine cover was disconnected from the front grille.

I'm curious, anyone has any idea can this happen on it's own or would you rather think that whoever worked on the car last must have messed it up?

I would think it was left that way the last time it was worked on. They are attached really well and this wouldn't just happen.
