When the engine is off, the rear lights are off. As soon as the ignition is turned on, the rear lights only turn on and the brake lights not working at all

Check brake light switch and fuses, as for the lights coming on, this may just be day time running lights which is normal on some make and models, as you have not started what type of car this is i can't see if i have a wiring schematic to see what may be going on.

Check the owners manual, Mahindra XUV in Australia do have day time running lights, so this may be normal, check brake light switch and fuse for no brake light, i have no info on your exact model
