I have a 2006 Volvo XC90 and with the key in the ignition it will not move pass the intermediate position. I do get a warning message that the passenger air bag service is urgent. Also the steering wheel lock is not locked. I have tried to move the steering wheel to lock it, but no luck.

I feel you have two different issues. First, try to lubericate the tumbler where the key goes to see if that will loosten it. If it doesn't, you will need to remove the tumbler to determine if the tumbler is the problem or the actual switch is the problem. They make special lubericants for tumblers that you can get at any parts store.

Fot the air bag light is most likely a sensor issue. Once the ignition swith issue is resolved, you need to have the computer scanned to identify what is causng the light to come on. Based on a trouble code that will be present, you will know why the light is on.

The tumbler is part of the steering column lock and you will need to replace it. Since it comes coded already, you will need to order from the dealer and should take 5-7 business days to arrive.
