I was leaving my friends house late on a cold night and my car died in the middle of his driveway. Next morning I went out started it up but there was an extreme ticking coming from the motor. It almost sounds like the piston is smack a valve. I havent taken the head off but i know that the timing belt is still good. is it possible that it jumped timing? is it possible i have a bad hydraulic lifter? What else could be a cause?

If the timing belt jumped a tooth you would probably have very poor performance especially if a valve was bent. If the timing belt has much over 60,000 miles on it, it is a possibility. You run a trouble code check and come back if you need them de-coded.
A ticking noise is more commonly a failed lifter. There is not much you can do about that and with the mileage on your car it is not worth the top end tear down to get to it.
