2006 Volkswagen Passat Hi Recently Started Having This Leave Car

Hi my passat has recently started having this problem. When i leave the car unlocked or even when im driving the bootlid pops open randomly.Without warning or touching anything it just pops. Its a 2.0 tdi by the way.It has only started recently but it is a serious inconvienience. I havent got a proper answer to the cause off any mechanic so far so any opinion would be great thanks.

the latch may need to be adjusted or replaced. dont mess around with this as it can become dangerous real quick.
