When i am driving my car ( 2006 1.8 vauxhall vectra SRi) when i am in 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th when driving up and down the gears i am getting a rough whistling noise and i have noticed there is a small leak from under the car at the back of the engine but this could be coming from the transmission?

Took it to a garage and they said it could be the rack and the noise is coming from the power steering motor...but not too sure since they wanted nearly a $1000 to fix it.?

Please help me :-)

well not really sure but i would think the pump could make a noise or the belt on the pump could cause a noise.the mechanic should have went for a ride with you or atleast tried to duplicate the problem. there are so many things that can cause a noise like this it really has to be narrowed down. good luck.we are here to help ant time.

Hello again, i have had some more development on the car situation. I was driving it just before and i heard a loud noise and then there was no drive in the car, i tried every gear but the car would not drive at all. But when i put it in gear it sounds like that same noise i was getting before when driving but only quieter. any ideas?
