When I go to place my vehicle into park, it rolls backward and then there is a loud popping noise heard from the shift lever. It shifts fine while driving. It only makes the noise when you place it in park.

Someone needs to check the adjustment and connections of the cable to make sure it is going into Park all the way. If it is, then you have an internal issue with the parking pawl and it will have to go to a trans shop.
