Hi I lately have purchased a Subaru Liberty and a few weeks into owning it it has started having problems with the transmission. When it hits 2nd gear it starts to jolt forward and has trouble getting up from 2nd gear. You can feel the car struggling to get faster and then will finally get up a gear. Also the engine is making a very loud rattling noise like something is loose. It does it when the car is both cold and warm. Would you have any idea what this problem is? Its very loud and embarrassing when I drive it.

Start with a diagnostic scan of the transmission system to see if there are any set fault codes and also check that he transmission oil is ok that is red and not burnt and smelly and the level is ok, as for the engine noise is it constant with engine speed, you can remove the drive belts and see if the noise stops this will help narrow down the possibilities.
