I recently replaced the brake light bulb on the driver's side. The same bulb is for the brake light AND the actual taillight. However, only the brake light works, not the taillight. I checked the fuses, checked the passenger-side brake light & taillight, and everything seems fine and in working order. What more can I do? Might I need to replace the light assembly?

Correct. Only driver's side. Front park light works.
