2006 Saturn Ion misfiring

Sometime when I start the enging up in the morning time it have a miss in the engine it don't last long then it stop missing what could be causing this miss and what do I need to check?

The first thing I need to as you is there any codes in the computer? Have you checked for trouble codes yet.

Thats the code for the thermostat you have had that code for a while that wont cause the missing when its cold. So that code you checked for like in the last couple of days?

I take my car to advance auto to scan the code what kind of code scanner I need to buy to scan with? I don't want to spend a lot of money on a code scanner.

The pocket scanner I have for a quick code read and it has some live engine data is 50 on amazon. Its autel model al 319 its a pretty cool one for a quick reasonable code reader.
