2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse Used car choice

My wife is interested in spending $5000 on a used car. Despite recommendations to buy Hondas or Toyotas, she insists on buying a different car. Here are her choices.

Volkswagon Beetle, Mini cooper, PT Cruiser, BMW or Mercedes (all convertibles)
Mitsubishi Ecplise.

The years range from 2003- 2006.

I've heard that most of these cars have poor records of repair and reliability. Is this true?

Any cars more than 5 years old are subjected to breakdowns no matter what the make is.

I've been told or heard that Mercedes, Bmw, Mini cooper( Part of Bmw) are money pit vehicles as the repairs and parts will cost way more than what the car cost, for example a Mercedes air shock cost an estimate of $1,100 for just one.. I am not sure about the other vehicles you listed though.

Find a vehicle that is suitable to your needs, with of course low mileage and try to get the vehicles maintenance/repair report if you can. Not sure if used cars have warranties but I would look into that too.
