I recently bought a 2006 Mini Cooper S and find the ride very rough. When I hit the smallest bump, the car rattles and if I drive over a pot hole, the car bangs. I have 95,000 miles so is the car due for shocks and if so which will give the most comfortable ride?

To check them, try the old bounce trick. Bounce the front or rear of the vehicle then stop. The car should stop bouncing within three bounces. If it doesn't they need replaced. Also, check to see if there is any evidence of leaks from the shocks.

If they are the original shocks, chances are they need replaced.
