safe mode while driving

I have a 2006 Lincoln Navigator. The vehicle goes into safe mode while driving. I took it to Autozone for diagnostic and they told me that the throttle body needs to be cleaned. Is this possible and how is it done? This is a dangerous problem as the vehicle engine stays running in safe mode but does not allow any acceleration.

A dirty throttle body will not put the vehicle in safe mode. There is a sensor or other issue. The scanners they have a AZ can't read all of the codes. They most likely are not seeing the problem. It could be related to the transmission which will not show up for them.

You need to have it checked by someone with the proper equipment.

After many many hours spent rattling my brain on a navigator, here’s my two cents. Fix all engine code problems before trying to fix the transmission. In my case, I was getting a p1719 along with two lean codes. It threw my transmission into limp mode after driving 15-20 minutes, everytime. Turned out to be a failing fuel pump. The only way to test was to check fuel pressure; it was at 49 psi when it should be 65-72. Changed the fuel pump, and limp mode and all engine codes went away. The computer modules on these cars are very strict and at any risk of causing harm, will throw your transmission into limp mode.
