what could be causing a hard start and white fume from the exhaust on a kia sorento suv

White fumes could be due to a blown head gasket and that wuld result in loss of compression and difficult starting. Engine should be performing below par.

Do you have coolant looses and overheating issues?

Get a compression test done to confirm.
