2006 kia sorento check engine light

My check engine light came on tonight after stopping at a red light.I checked all the fluids and added coolent the rest were fine. I left the hood up and started the engine and there was a faint ticking noise.... When I pressed the gas the ticking sped up. The car runs smooth. What could be wrong? ? ?
