Burning oil

Check the spark plugs, see if there is a white ash deposit on any of them, do you see a puff of blue smoke when you start the car up cold?

You could have a broken oil control ring on one of the pistons.

No none of those things are present. The car runs great. No other issues or signs that their is an issue. The car will indicate that oil needs to be added with a slight ticking sound. And once I add a qt. of oil then that sound goes away. I check the dip stick and it's up in the normal range. And 1000 miles later I'm having to add more oil. And I just don't know where it's going. It's not leaking out because it would be on my driveway and it's not. No additional smoke to speak of. So I'm at a loss of what is making it burn oil.

I purchased a used 2006 Infiniti with 130 miles back in October 2015. I had the car throughly checked by a mechanic and the previous owner has all the paperwork that he took the car to get maintained at infiniti. The car runs great, but I'm having to get the oil changed every 3k miles. The mechanic advised that he will try using a thicker oil this time (synthetic) instead of the mix he was using the last 3 times. I love my car but wow! How is Infiniti able to get away with building an engine that burns so much oil. Is anyone else having this issue?

It not a case of the manufacture building dodgy engines, it's a case of how they are serviced and maintained over the years, wrong oil used will not allow the engine to bed in and this is a major cause of oil usage, infrequent oil changes allow carbon and sludge to build up in the ring lands and this is also a big concern, over heated engines will damage the tension of the piston rings, so many things can cause problems the damage may have been done long before you purchased the car, so allow your mechanic to determine the best action to take to rectify your problems.
