What is the thing mounted on top of the transaxle where the shifter cables are fastened to called?? and how do I remove it

If you're talking about the electronic part it is the transmission range sensor, also called neutral safety switch. It is bolted down and slides up the shaft to remove it but if removedm it will have to be readjusted. https://www.2carpros.com/images/external/126090320.jpg
