If oil level is low, it is either leaking or burning it. Check for leaks first.

Remove the plugs, open throttle body to wide open. Disable fuel, ignition.
Connect pressure gauge to spark plug hole, rotate engine with starter for 10 sec. Record PSI on each cylinder, If one or more is 10-20% lower, you have a headgasket or head problem.
