2006 Elantra with just over 56,000 miles

Check engine light comes on and the thermostat has been replace twice; also had a bad hose replaced. Car is losing water/coolant and is still overheating. What should be looked at next?

What is the trouble code for the MIL indicating?

When coolant is depleting, engine would definitely overheat. It is a matter of time. You need to check/test for leaks and a bad head gasket.
