2006 Ford Mustang running loud while driving. Recently had my car in for an oil change. They checked everything over. They said everything was fine but my two front wheels were wearing on the inside and I needed an alignment. I had some random tell me it may be the head gasket because it isn't loud while idling. But wouldn't the mechanics have noticed that when changing my oil and topping up all my fluids? My car is my baby, but I'm scared of the costs if it really is the head gasket.

I need more info on what you mean by running loud. A head problem would cause a misfire, overheating and coolant loss, if it is just a exhaust noise problem, get the exhaust system checked for leaks, any more info you can supply would be great.

I don't really know how to describe it my car just makes a lot of noise when I'm driving. It sounds like a motorboat. It doesn't make the noise if i'm just idling in the driveway nor when I rev the engine.

Just re check all the fluid levels to make sure that they are correct, don't drive the car if it is knocking as you may have an oil pressure problem and you don't want to do any internal damage, with out hearing the noise or a better description it is very hard to get a handle on what may be going on.

THE SUPER DOOPER LUBE PLACES DON'T NECESSARILY HAVE "MECHANICS", MANY TIMES IT'S JUST A FELLER TRAINED TO PULL A PLUG. DRAIN THE OIL, INSTALL PLUG, FILL WITH OIL, CHANGE THE OIL FILTER

. AND THEN

YOU, YOURSELF

CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL

AND THE

COOLANT LEVEL

WHEN THEY WERE DONE WITH THE SERVICE?

YEAH, YOU MAY BE ABLE TO HOLD THEM RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR MESS-UPS, BUT IT'S TIME CONSUMING AND COSTLY, "YOUR BABY" IS THE ONE THAT MIGHT SUFFER. ALWAYS CHECK BEHIND THEM (MAYBE THEY WILL DO IT RIGHT EVERY TIME!

EXTREME BEING SLAMMED AT THE BUSINESS/ POOR ATTITUDE/ FORGETFULNESS/ AND OF COURSE CELL PHONES COULD HAVE PLAYED INTO THE SERVICE YOU MAY HAVE RECEIVED/ OR NOT! YOU MAY FIND HORROR STORIES ON FACE BOOK OR YOU TUBE.

IS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON?

OTHER THAN A HEAD GASKET ISSUE, ALMOST THE SAME NOISE IS MADE IF A SPARK PLUG GETS LOOSE AND FALLS OUT.

DO YOU KNOW OF A "REAL MECHANIC" WHO MIGHT GIVE IT A QUICK ONCE OVER IN THE PARKING LOT TO LET YOU KNOW WHAT MIGHT BE WRONG?

AROUND HERE, SOMETIMES YOU CAN GET THAT AND A "OFF THE TOP OF THEIR HEAD" ESTIMATE, BEFORE YOU SURRENDER IT TO A SHOP.

NEED HELP LOCATING A DECENT SHOP? I MIGHT CAN SUGGEST A PROVEN METHOD TO FIND ONE.

I live in a small town this isn't a jiffy lube or anything like that it is a mechanical repair shop. I am not saying they are responsible at all, just questioning what the likely hood of them missing something like this when they were looking for why my engine was loud as well as changing my oil.

I already have an appointment to get it looked at again on Monday, I just wanted an idea as I'm going in their blind. And the 3,000 plus dollars it would cost me to get the gasket fixed is scary. Either way I'll deal with it.

THE WAY THE BEGINNING OF YOUR QUESTION WAS WORDED, IT KINDA SORTA SOUNDED LIKE YOUR 'RACKET" DID NOT START TILL AFTER "THE RECENT OIL CHANGE"

ALONG WITH THAT, MAYBE YOU HAD THOUGHT THEY WOULDA STUMBLED ONTO THE RACKET (MAYBE IN ITS INFANCY)

HENCE, THE "DID YOU COVER YOUR TAIL" FROM ME, BY "DOUBLE CHECKING" BEHIND ANY SHOP, PERFORMED BY ANYONE ELSE, OTHER THAN YOURSELF (AND YOU DID NOT 100% WATCH THE PROCEDURE)

OTHER THAN MY INTERPRETATION

SOUNDS LIKE YOU KNEW THE RACKET WAS THERE THE WHOLE TIME AND YOU HAD 'NOT' ACTUALLY ASKED THE FELLERS AT THE SHOP TO INVESTIGATE IT DURING THE OIL CHANGE?

AS FAR AS GOING IN BLIND, YOU ARE AT THEIR MERCY, UNLESS YOU OPT FOR A SECOND (3rd/ 4th) OPINION FROM A DIFFERENT SHOP(s) OR YOU CAN TRACE THE RACKET TO ITS SOURCE YOURSELF.

IT'S HARD TO DIAGNOSE OVER THE NET, CAN SEE/ HEAR/ TOUCH THINGS THAT ARE SOMETIMES EVEN HARD TO DO IN PERSON. ACTUAL BREAKAGES ARE EZier TO CYBER-REPAIR THAN "GHOST NOISES" (FROM ANYWHERE ON A VEHICLE). ITS EVEN HARDER WITHOUT REAL HANDS ON INPUT BACK TO US.
