I accidentally drove my automatic mustang in 3rd gear at about 40-45mph. I was getting on the freeway and noticed the RPM at 4 and realized it was in 3rd and immediately switched it to drive. I'm getting a oil change soon but I'm concerned if I did any damage to the engine?

It should be fine, get the trans service and there should not be a problem.

Should I just get a drain and fill transmission service or a full flush? I've heard contradicting recommendations.

Just a drain and new filter will be fine.
