if diagnostic tool gives code for r/h side abs sensor is this n/s or offside and when it says r/h or l/h does this mean as sat in drivers seat or looking from front of car

Yes, the side of vehicle means when seated in drivers seat and looking forward.

sitting in the drivers seat, the left is drivers and passenger is right side.

test the sensor for ac voltage before condeming it. remove the connector, jack up the car and rotate the wheel. it should show some ac voltage. if it does not, the sensor is bad, if it does, you have other issues.
