My 2006 Ford expedition shuts down and starts after stopping a few minutes. It shows engine fail safe mode. Ford looked at it last year and said there were no codes. It happened again this year about 3 times during November and December. Only happens in winter. Mechanic checked it in December and said no codes. All gauages are in their normal ranges. What are the probable causes and repairs?

Try replacing the EEC relay. It is in the power distribution box under the hood. If that doesn't fix it, it will need to be scanned when the problem happens. I realize that doesn't make things easy.
