The oil was on the outside of the spark plugs? If so your valve cover gasket is leaking into the spark plug holes.

In the actual cylinder itself?Your sure about that? Does the car have blue smoke coming out of the exhaust when its running? If there is that much oil its on the end of the spark plug there should be blue smoke. Also is it burning oil?
