I bought this in May 2013. I am getting an avg MPG 18 and 21.5. My 17 year old 4Runner got the same MPG when I sold it. What might improve my MPG? One suggestion was a tune up WILL NOT affect the MPG on these more recent models.

Hello,
What size engine do you have?

Gas mileage on these trucks are not great to start with. A couple things you may try though:
:
Fuel Filter
Check for correct air pressure in tires
Aftermarket air filter / cold air intake
Aftermarket exhaust system

Most newer cars do not require tune ups in the same way the older ones do, however if you have a check engine light on, this can effect gas mileage.

Okay, yeah my girlfriends cousin has the same truck and they just don't get great gas mileage. You can try the things above and it may help out a couple mpg's. No check engine light though?

No engine light. Just disappointing that a 17 year old heavier 4Runner got the same mileage after it was tuned up

The EPA rating for this car 18/23, and they are typically done at lower speeds then most people drive. I agree with you though!
