Was told the bushings are worn and need replacing. but also being told the bushings themselves cant be replaced but more "cost effective" to replace the entire control arms with the bushings. that it would cost prohibitive with labor to just replace the bushings (possibly having to do with fitting or molding the bushings to the control arms). Is this accurate? Do I need to replace the control arms if the bushings are worn down?

Labor costs can easily outweigh the cost of parts. So when the control arms come "pre-loaded" with the bushings, it would be faster (and cheaper) to replace the control arm assembly.
