I ment to add in the question that when i pulled the plugs, the plugs in cylenders 1 and 2 where covered in oil. this being said i dont think its the fuel pressure.

if the plugs are covered in oil then you have a more serious problem thatn a fuel pressure regulator. check compression on allcylinders

unless you change the plugs your roughness at idle or anywhere wont go away. check your compression dry on all 4 then wet by spraying oil in cylinders send me the readings.

Engine running rough or misfiring can be cause by the following:

1.Defective spark plug
2.Inadequate spark/coil,defective spark plug wire.
3.Lack of compression
4.False air leakage.
5.Faulty fuel injectors.
6.Insufficient fuel pressure.
7.Contaminated fuel.
8.EGR valve that is leaking.
9.Oxygen sensors.
10.Throttle position sensor.
11.Idle air control valve.

Turning the A/C on simply adds more load to an engine that likely had a problem already. It could be many things like a vacuum leak, ignition problem, fuel problem or more serious internal problem.

I'm stumped. I have replaced the plugs 3 times, the coil and wires twice, checked the wiring for proper continuity, and replaced the PCM with a reman. Every time I reset the DTC codes, the vehicle will run fine until about 2000 rpm then start missing and through P2305 first, followed by P0300 then P0352. Plugs 1 and 4 look clean and plugs 2 and 3 look dirty. I have cleaned the MAP and the IAT. Both coils show 0.45 ohms primary and 11k ohms secondary.

I have checked the Crank and cam position sensors and and associated all wiring. I cannot think of anything else the problem could be other than the new PCM. Any suggestions?

You gotta have fuel too. Try switching two injectors to see if the misfire goes to a different cylinder.

Took the car to the dealer. Found out the PCM had to be flashed a second time. They also did an update. There is a service bulletin on the new recommended spark plus. Champion Copper Plus. The PCM was manufactured by Auto Computer Exchange. After a call to their support about the issue, several hang ups and dead end transfers, and the asinine response from their support, I will never use them again and will recommend to everyone I know to find a different company. From my experience, they do a half-assed job on the PCM's and do not want to support their work.

Our PT Cruiser is running rough after you drive it about 5 miles. This started after I changed the plugs, wires, and coil yesterday. I have since changed the intake gaskets and MAP sensor and still no luck. I am getting codes P0352, P0351, P0300, P0171.

You are getting codes for coil primary circuits so something went wrong with the coil change. Check you work, especially the coil connectors.

The computer says there is a problem with the primary coil circuit so you need to look at it again.

2003 Pt. Crusier turbo automatic has a rough idle and sounds like a misfire when in park or when in gear at a stopped position. Seems to run fine when in park when you hit the gas or when you are driving. Use premium gas all the time. Seems to take 8 to 10 seconds after you start the car before it starts to run rough. Put new plugs and wires on, didnt help. Took it to the dealer, they did all there tests, couldnt find the problem. No check engine light comes on. Cant find any vaccum leaks either.

That is good. You also had a lean code so make sure you did not leave any hoses disconnected.

I figured my 2002 Cruiser was due for a tune up as it experienced hard starting and a rough idle until it warmed up. I said hey what the heck do the timing belt too. To date I have replaced the timing belt, alt. belt, air-conditioning belt, water pump, radiator, anti freeze, engine oil and filter, transmission oil, thermostat, spark plug wires, spark plugs, PCV Valve, EGR Valve, removed and cleaned the throttle body and removed cleaned and measured the IAC Valve then replaced all 4 fuel injectors. I still have a hard starting problem and a rough idle but now all the time.

If I had any money left I would not be here looking for a free answer.

Engine Mechanical problem
2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My car has a shaky idle, almost like a misfire. the system is tossing a misfire code in cylinder 3 at the mechanics, I have paid to replace the plugs, wires, coils, and it has helped, however the dealer reccomened a compression test, and cylinder three was 125 and the other 3 were at 175, what does this mean? is the repair possible? are there anyother things that could be wrong with the car?

That is a bit low than the others
try a wet compression
and cylinder leak test
did you lose a timing belt and if so
suspect valve

How many miles are on your cruiser?

I agree with BMRFIXIT, Have them do the wet compression and cyliner leak down tests.

The chrysler 2.4lL is what is called an interferance engine, if the timing belt breaks the piston(s)can come in contact with the valve(s) and damage them.

I have also seen numerious head gasket and head warpage problems with the 2.4l engine. With a 50 pound difference between #3 and the other cylinders I would defiinately recommed futher diagnosis if your plan is to keep the vehicle.

Thank to BMRFIXIT for his good advice.

Hope this info helps, let us know what you find.

Thank you,

Dan

Let me know.
