Im not aware of sensor? There is a solenoid, integrated part of shifter assembly. There is BTSI override that may let you shift out of drive and drive the vehicle. Your owners manual has that info. Id set the parking brake before you try any shifting.

If you need the override procedure holler. If you can get a trouble code, that might help? Some of the national brand autostores will check codes for free.
