I have a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer. In the past month the engine sounds really loud just like a windup toy. It also sounds like that when it is in idle. Most resently the there is a faint grinding sound when it changes gears. I think it has something to do with the transmission. I was wondering if you knew what could be the problem, what is the remedy, approximitely how much should it cost, and approximitely how long the car should be in the shop. Thanks.

Check your exhaust sys. For the noise. Youll need to service the trans. To check the pan for any metal. The noise maybe coming from the trans.

It is hard to say from here. It could be many things causing the engine to sound louder. If the check engine light has come on, have the computer scanned to identify trouble codes. Also, make sure all fluids are clean and full. Check for exhaust leaks. Check to make sure the air filter housing is closed and tight.
