2006 Chevrolet SSR compressor

Hi what would cause no oil in a car ac compressor. I took my dads apart and their was no oil inside. I know I didn't drain it either. I am rebuilding the compressor. I didn't see any oil around the outside or anything so I don't know what is going on. Thanks.

if you took it all the way apart then you may have seen a couple of ounces in it. that is about what they hold and the oil goes through the system anyhow. Unless a seal was bad and it leaked all out. Most of the time people are not able to rebuild compressors as parts are not generally available. Just the compressor it self.
