2006 malibu 2.2 ecotec engine is still making knocking noise

2006 malibu 2.2 ecotec engine was making knocking noise went to car shop they said it was low on oil and was making the engine pistons knock. i put in 3qt of oil sound like it was going away but it is back loud. if i have oil in car why does it still knock?

Have the oil pressure checked-oil pump could be failing or engine bearings problem
