I have a Lumina (S), model 2006. Its a 3.6lit V6.
Whenever I start the engine while its cold, there is a loud***** sound. Makes me feel like something is gonna break or may b some pipe is loose and comes in contact with something to make such a sound.
It only happens when the engine is cold.
The sound is similar to a plastic pipe hitting on a concrete wall.
I feel that it comes from under the hood only or somewhere from the gear box.
the engine is as good as it should be, havnt got any problem with engine. Its great.
Could this be a transmission/gear box problem?

Have it scanned for codes and let us know what you find. It could be an exhaust pipe hitting the frame. When everything heats up enough to move the pipe away from the frame member it's hitting.

Your car is computer controlled. When the computer detects problems, it will "set a code". You "scan for codes" to tell the computer to tell the scan tool what the diagnostic codes are. Many shops and parts stores do this for free.

For some unforeseen reason, I was not able to go there today.
I can go there only on 14th Jan (Saturday) as I would be busy with office work all the week.
Will keep you posted.

I went to the Chevrolet dealer in Dubai and they told me the below.
1. Two of the engine mounts are broken due to which the sound is coming when I start the car.
2. Water body is leaking (coolant is leaking).

(1) has nothing to do with the (2).
The estimate for both of the above jobs is 3,500 UAE dirham. I think that this amount is really high.

If you have tools or have access to tools, you can replace the motor mounts yourself.

"Water body"? Radiator? Hose(s)? Engine block?

I am sorry. Its the water pump:)
Not much concerned about the water pump thing as I can get it done easily.
Engine mounts: is it a big job.I mean to replace engine mounts is a complex job and need to be done by an expert?

No. You just need a jack or something to support the engine as you remove and replace the mounts. It should be about an hour to an hour and a half, total.

Salaam a'laikum. Be sure to use a piece of wood between the jack and the engine oil pan to protect the pan from damage.

By the way, what could be the reason(s) for broken mounts.I dont want this to happen again.I need to take care of it.
I drive fast but on very good roads. I never made the car jump from the ground. Whenever there is a speed breaker/bumps, I would slow down n pass it.
