2006 Chevrolet Cobalt Car Repair

I have a chevrolet Cobolt With a steering column that was replaced, but then had another shop replace the front and rear shocks and struts. The first shop over looked the shocks and struts, would a steering column be damaged again be caused by the lack of working shocks and struts?
