Automatic gearbox replacement

My car has a problem with the automatic gearbox. A mechanic told me that you can't replace the gearbox because it is "programmed" to the specific car. Is he talking nonsense?

I am not an Audi tech, but this does sound a bit far fetched to me, call your local dealer and ask them.

You shouldn't have no problem if you're replacing it with an OEM part
