Hello,

The gauge on my car is malfunctioning. It doesn't move up gradually while the engine heats up, instead it shoots up directly to 90 degrees while driving or some times not at all. At times while driving after it goes up to 90 it will fall back down as if the engine is cold.

Your input is greatly appreciated.

Start by checking the wiring to the temperature sensor. Make sure it has a good clean and tight connection. Also, check the sensor itself. It could be bad.

Thank you so much for your prompt response!

Where is the sensor located? Can I get to it myself?

Thank you.

To the best of my knowledge, there are two sensors. One is on the radiator (which is for the fans) the other is on the engine block near the a/c compressor. I believe that is the one you need to focus on. Yes, this is something you can do at home.

Replace the coolant temperature sensor. Common problem.
