2005 Volvo S40 surges then loses power

2005 Volvo S40 Manual

it feels as though i am running out of petrol and the motor practically cuts out then surges forward again. its happening more and more regularly now. i would appreciate any help as this is dangerous. it had a full service 6000km ago. the fuel filter has being replaced. thank you.

Is this a Turbo or none turbo engine? Also has the check engine light come on? Can you get it scanned for trouble codes and post them on here?

yes, its a t5. the scan showed interm fault on fuel pressure sensor. volvo suggest they replace the sensor but as it costs a lot i wanted a 2nd opinion from you guys first. regards. gail

If fuel pressure is ok fuel pump duty cycle is within specs, then yes those fuel pressure sensors have failed from time to time.
