how to check trans fluid in a 2005 vw jetta gti 1.8t

Start the engine, allow it to warm up, and then in the front of the engine compartment is the dipstick for the transmission. It's in the driver's side. I believe it is a closed loop red top. Remove it, wipe it with a rag, and then replace and recheck. It should be to the full line.
