Now and again over the past week our car has been shuddering when in first gear, some days its perfectly fine nothing at all. Others it does it on and off all day. Any ideas of what this could be? We had the clutch & flywheel replaced just over two years ago. The car has just been fully serviced and had its mot.

It sounds like either clutch shudder, (did the fly wheel get machined with the clutch replacement?) Or a low speed misfire, you need to get a mechanic to test drive it to identify what the problem actual is first then we can advise on best action.

We've had it a two garages who both said without stripping it right back they couldn't tell for sure if it was the fly wheel or not. Theres no vibration through the clutch at all its the actual car thats shuddering, and it doesn't do it all the time. The only problem they could find at the garage was one of the seals was leaking oil.

From what you describe it sounds like clutch shudder, which you only feel in 1st when taking off, but with out test driving it is hard to say for sure, I am sure local mechanics can tell clutch shudder when they feel it.

Yeah we had it at another garage yesterday and they said they are fairly sure its is the fly wheel. Would you think this should have lasted longer as we only had it done a little over two tears ago?

A number of factors can cause this was the fly wheel machined last time?
