Have had car from brand new. Only 55000 miles. Drive for my job. MOT'd in July. Was driving fine all day whilst working one Sunday in September, stopped and would not start, jump started and drove home. Next day would not start. Mechanic came with battery pack and instant start spray but no joy. Apparently needs a new engine. How likely is this, bearing in mind low mileage and carefully driven by myself since new???

We would need to know more about this situation to answer that. If the motor has failed, then something likely caused it to do that like running low on oil or overheating. Either one of those things will cause an engine to fail and they both would be the fault of the driver, not the engine.
