Car lunging when starting and stopping

I have a 2005 solara, it has started "lunging" when I step on the gas, like I punched it ( which I don't ) , it also seems to "lung" when I come to a complete stop, like someone has lightly hit me. Almost feels like something is slipping. What could it be?

is the check engine light on??

could be an idle issue. dirty throttle body, vacuum leak.
