Hi,

I have a squeal/grinding noise coming from the crankshaft pulley. It goes in time with the revs and doesn't go away, its not affecting the engine performance (yet) it's just the noise.

I just don't want it to fail whilst I'm driving so I want to get it fixed first before driving again. Would it be likely the rubber seal has worn and needs replacing?

When I bought the car I was unaware of how bad it's maintenance has been neglected.

Many Thanks

It may be the belt and tensioner making noise or an idler pulley, I would remove the belt so you can spin the pulleys by hand to listen for the noise. Here is how to remove the belt and replace the tensioner in case you discover the noise at the pulley.

2. REMOVE FAN AND GENERATOR V BELT
a. Turn the drive belt tensioner clockwise to relieve tension on the belt, and then remove the belt.
B. Carefully return the tensioner to the unloaded position.

NOTICE:
Be sure to connect SST and the tools so that they are inline when using.
When retracting the tensioner, turn it clockwise slowly in 3 sec. Or more. Be sure to not apply force rapidly.
After the tensioner is retracted all the way, do not apply force any more than necessary.

Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.
