1st & 2nd gear sometimes not engaging in a Renault Modus 2005 1.2

Check gearbox oil type used and condition, check clutch adjustment, when in 1st gear how high is the pedal befor drive is felt?

The oil has never been changed and I have not noticed any difference on take off. Sometimes it takes the gears well and all off sudden it becomes too hard to engage 1&2 gears.

change the oil and get the shifter checked out, don't have any info on this car to hand but if cable shifter may be a cable problem or in the shifter quadrant.

I checked the shifter and oil it looks fine. This morning I could not engage all the gears on the idle. When I engage 1st gear and start the engine, it just drives away with clutch pedal down. It is currently jammed on the reverse gear.

is this a hydraulic or cable clutch, sounding like a clutch operating problem.

I opened the gearbox and one of the pins in the pressure plate is broken. I am going to get myself a clutch kit and a new slave.
