The oilpan drainplug on my 2005 Pontiac Vibe will not quit dripping oil. I am afraid the bolt may have been crossthreaded and cracked the oilpan. My mechanic says that if this is true, then he will have to pull the engine to change the oilpan. Is this true? Is ther an acceptable alternative for a repair? notapromike

The pan is a casting and engine must be raised or removed to get to all pan bolts. Only other fix would be to use an epoxy, but you wouldn't be able to remove bolt for and oil change.

Oil pan can be replaced without removing engine also if drain plug gasket is not being renewed at oil change that may be causing leak.
